This 9 x 11 full-color, 152-page book published by Preservation Virginia, has been reduced from $60 to $40. (See Publications Section.) Tobacco Barns, Preserving History in the Old Belt, raises awareness of the farm buildings that define the history of tobacco production in a three-county area including Halifax and Pittsylvania counties in Virginia and Caswell County in North Carolina. Over 60 tobacco barns have been preserved thanks to grants through the JTI Leaf Services Mini-Grants Project. This multiple-year project coordinated by Preservation Virginia, involved the Halifax County Historical Society, the Pittsylvania Historical Society and the Caswell County Historical Society. The preface acknowledges these groups and others for their assistance in helping to identify the featured barns.
