County Historical Society Announces New Publication
The Halifax County Historical Society has a new publication Halifax County Prisoners of War by Barbara Bass. The book, which includes stories of twenty-seven POWs from World War I, World War II, and the Korean War, is an attempt to honor the soldiers’ memories, tell their stories, and in some small way to say “Thank you.” “Finding a way to represent and tell the stories of such brave individuals, those who sacrificed much to protect citizens of many nations of the world was a difficult task,” explains Bass. “Some came home to America different from when they left, and their bravery and courage should never be forgotten.”
A book signing will be held at the South Boston-Halifax County Visitor Center on Tuesday, December 12, from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. The book sells for $12.00 (check or cash).
Following the book signings, purchases may be made at the South Boston-Halifax County Visitor Center and Main Street Furniture/Electric Service in South Boston, Peddler’s Market in Halifax, or by visiting the Society’s website www.halifaxcountyhistoricalsociety.org. Copies will also be available at the Society’s booth in South Boston at the Veteran Day Celebration and at the Holiday Living Show November 11-12, 2017.
